"mom, why do bulls hate red?"

It's been a long time since my trivia has been tested, and tonight I failed.  Rachel was watching "Kick Buttowski" (you can tell by the program name that I only encourage the best of educational TV for my youngest) - and posed the question "why do bulls hate red?" - and after my politically correct "oh, I'm sure they don't "hate" it, I think they just "strongly dislike" it, I was at a lost for an answer.  So I turned to my best friend wiki, and here's what she said:

"They don't hate it. This is a common misconception thanks to the Spanish bullfighters and the use of their red capes to intimidate the bull they are fighting in the ring. Bulls and all cattle in general are in fact dichromates, and only see in blues and yellows, so they only respond to movement, not colour. The red colour was used because it made it easier for the audience to see the bullfighter, not for the bull to see the bullfighter. It is also tradition in the Spanish culture to use red in festivities like this."  Blah, totally not the interesting, useless trivia I was hoping for, but there you have it.  (Editors Note:  please STOP bull fighting and all other such nonsense, thank you!"

Ready to go!
